Tibet enjoys fame as "The Roof of the World" - and the roads from Yunnan to Lhasa are the least traveled roads in the world, offering surprising views and varied ethnic cultures along the way. If Tibet is one of the relatively untouched areas of the world, then the eastern part of Tibet, bordering Yunnan Province, is the most untouched area of Tibet. Rich with virgin forests and crystal blue lakes, this formerly inaccessible route offers spectacular scenery as well as an opportunity to come in contact with the primary village cultures of Yunnan and Tibet. The long and winding drive on unpaved roads is very challenging and arduous, but this will be an unforgettable, once in your lifetime journey. We will start our adventure in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan. In 17 days we will be riding on the ancient caravan trails, visiting small villages and Tibetan monasteries. You will learn about distinctive cultures and religions on this trip. This ancient Tea Horse Road was once the main connection for the transporting of goods to Tibet and India from China. Today, the road remains as a unique natural and cultural opportunity. Enjoy a few days exploring the historic city Lhasa at your leisure before heading to Mt. Everest base camp. We ride from Lhasa to north Everest Base Camp. The journey will be a high-altitude adventure, including several mountain passes at over 5000 meters! We'll spend time traveling in the shadow of the Himalayas, with a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride up to the base camp of Everest, where climbers begin their ascent of the world's tallest mountain. Tibet is a land rich in history, and many of the ancient temples, monasteries and palaces will be on our path through this beautiful country. If you are looking for history, adventure, challenge and excitement on two wheels, then this extension tour through Tibet is for you!
