Ride cross the three Parallel Rivers of Asia
The Three Parallel Rivers World Heritage Area lies beyond the frantic urbanization of south China, this area was once a hidden from the tourists due to remoteness and unimproved roads. This area is now accessible to motorcyclists with enough riding skilled to reach the area and a certain tolerance for the lack of modern hotels and traveling at high altitudes. Our trip was planned as a three part ride exploring the ridges between the Salween, Mekong and Yangtze River gorges. The narrowest point among the three rivers is just within 70 Kilometers but takes three day in the old times to drive around, or to trek over the high passes. We start our trip in Kunming and ride to our first big rier the Salween River, we then ride over the watershed on a newly built dirt road tothe Mekong River gorge, this trail is the original route taken by the French missionaries in the 1900s, will take you to meet the Catholic Tibetan, Nu and Lisu communities along the Salween and Mekong rivers. The trip takes you to the highest unclimbed mountain in the world, the Kawakarpo Mountain. We then ride to legendary Shangrila and meet our third big river on the trip. We have a rest day in world heritage town of Lijiang before we head back to Kunming.
